Background and previous experience

After my graduating from the University of York with a Masters in Community Music I completed a PGCE in Secondary Music at Nottingham Trent University. I qualified as a Secondary Music Teacher in 2007 and started working at Lodge Park Academy. In 2010 I received a Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award for my ‘Xtraordinary Singing’ Project. The project was based on using an Xbox in Music lessons to engage and motivate students. Following on from this I was invited to Moscow to present at the Microsoft European Forum. During October half term in 2010 I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to visit South Korea to research the use of ICT in Primary and Secondary schools, as part of the British Council’s Teachers International Professional Development programme. In December 2010 I presented my own seminar entitled ‘Deeper Engagement of Students and Parents through Social Networking and Games Based Learning’ and on the Microsoft Education Stand about our use of Live @edu. In 2011 I was chosen to train to become a SSAT Lead Practitioner. During this time I worked closely with a colleagues across a range of subjects to support and encourage the use of Innovative Technologies in lessons. In 2012 I was promoted to Head of Music. In 2014 after working for 6 years in mainstream education I started my current role of Expressive Arts Leader at Friars Academy, a Special Needs Secondary in Wellingborough. Last year I completed a Coaching course with the Wellingborough Education Partnership and have recently started my NPQML with Inspiring Leaders.

What I hope to offer through school to school support

As an SLE I am available to work with schools, senior leaders and class teachers to support in all areas of Music and Expressive Arts; developing schemes of work, supporting teachers with planning, teaching and assessment. I am incredibly passionate about the use of technology in lessons to enhance teaching and learning and can offer support, ideas and examples of good practice.  Coaching is a cost effective form of CPD in education and I am able to help set up, develop and implement a coaching ethos in schools.
