Maplefields Academy (SEMH)
Job title and current role:
Assistant Head Teacher of Teaching and Learning and Assessment
Head of Mathematics.
School 2 School support.
Background and previous experience
I have extensive experience in Special Needs education, firstly working as a specialist teaching assistant and then moving on to becoming a Qualified Teacher. I have completed training in safeguarding, team teach, autism training, behaviour management strategies and behaviour for learning. I have developed skills in leadership through my experience as a subject leader and then as phase leader of year 6/7/8. After completion of the middle leadership programme I have been able to further develop leadership skills across whole school by taking on the role of Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning and Assessment.
I have been able use this experience to offer support to other schools through School 2 School support at Maplefields Academy. This role has enabled me to work closely with senior leadership teams to offer support around the county in areas such as behaviour management, lesson structure, the role of the subject leader, the effectiveness of TA’s and school structure.
What I hope to offer through school to school support
Throughout my time at Maplefields I have been able to develop skills in a number of areas including behaviour management, teaching and learning, school structure and special needs education. I hope to offer strategies to develop, consolidate or improve these areas in other schools. I hope to be able to impart advice and set targets for members of staff to empower them to make any changes that may be needed and to provide structured support with step by step plans to meet any needs.
I hope to work closely with other senior leadership teams to offer support identify strategies that could be effectively used to help to support the implementation of their own school improvement plans.
